Fan calls are the BIGGEST waste of money
I think this is an unpopular opinion because fan calls have become such a big part of kpop stan culture. Everyone is entitled to spend their money how they like but I just personally can't see a justifiable reason to pay to talk to someone for 1 minute.
Firstly, im not gonna sit here and tell people how to spend their money. If this is something you're happy to do then you do you besties. Im just speaking on my own behalf and the way I value money.
There is only really 1 (maybe 2?? depending on if you count them under the same category) reasons as to why I think fan calls are a waste of money. I just don't see the point in spending potentially hundreds of pounds to speak to someone for like 1 minute whos job would basically be to be nice to me. I feel like this is purely because I don't buy into the parasocial relationships with idols, I don't really gain anything from dropping a corny pick up like and getting a teehee. Or just telling someone I like them and their music.At the end of the day kpop idols are just fullilling yet another obligation from their company.
I also know that on some occasions people will use their fan call time to educate idols or tell them something they've done thats offensive. But think about it... You spent money to tell someone that they did something wrong?? I feel like the intent is good and its really important that we get these messages across to idols. But you're basically paying their companies bills to tell them something that they might not even let sink in.
