T-Mobile REFUSES To Unlock My Phone That's Paid-Off Unless I Pay $152 for Another Week of Service That I Don't Want

Hey everyone - so I have been with Tmobile for over 5 years now, and for the most part, I've been a happy customer. Until recently.

In late December, my wife's phone had to have a warranty replacement (that whole process was an absolute nightmare involving literally being told by the Tmobile store reps to go through the phone insurance and not tmobile directly, and then the phone insurance told me I had to go back to the tmobile store, who then told me I had to go through the phone insurance company yet again). But that is a nightmare for another day.

Now, I decided I want to move over to Mint mobile because my Tmobile monthly bill (with 4 lines) was up to $280, and I was laid off in December.

I own all four phones on the account - they're fully paid off; T-Mobile doesn't own them. I need all of my phones unlocked to move to Mint, obviously, but my wife's phone cannot be unlocked by T-Mobile, as it has to be 'active on the network for 40 days'. Thus, beginning my nightmare.

I called customer service on Thursday, Customer Service Rep #1 told me they would put in a special request and then call me back on Saturday. They called me back... at 12:53 AM Sunday morning. Obviously, I was asleep, so I missed the call.

I called Tmob back Sunday, and explained the situation to Customer Service Rep #2 again, only to be told the same thing: your phone has to be active on the network for 40 days before we will unlock it. I was then told by customer service rep #2 that SHE put in an additional request to see if we can get it unlocked sooner, and then call me back in a couple days.

They called this evening, and gave me the same result: denied unlocking because the phone has been active for 33 days, not 40 days.

Now, because my billing cycle ends tomorrow, I'm forced to pay an additional $152 to keep the service active for the additional 6 days to fulfill the required 40 days to unlock the phone. /endrant

TL;DR: T-Mobile is refusing the unlock my wife's phone, that's fully paid for and owned by us, unless I pay another $152 to keep my service active for another week to fulfill a "requirement".
