High Potential, cop show quirk

Just a question I've noticed while watching various cop shows. Currently watching High Potential and I just really like these kinds of shows personally - pseudo-Sherlock Holmes crime thrillers.

Either way, in episode 12, the LAPD and the FBI are fighting over jurisdiction of a case because the victim dies right after getting off the plane at an airport. I've worked data forensics before and from my perspective, I prefer less work.

Do real life detectives and cops care about this kind of bullshit? Lol like do they really argue with other police personnel saying, "He died in X location, which means he's our responsibility! Don't take over our crime scene." It's such a common trope in cop shows and I feel like it's just completely fake and stupid.
