My boss encouraged me to limit drinking at the upcoming conference
As she was telling me about a former employee and their actions at the last conference, which resulted in a bad mark on the organization, she encouraged me to limit my drinking to reduce any inappropriate behavior.
I said, "Well, you don't need to worry about that. I've been sober for 17 years."
She looked me over with disbelief and said, "You're not old enough to have 17 years sobriety."
I affirmed, "Yep. Crazy how the time flies by."
It is crazy. For a minute, I remembered how people used to talk about me and my behavior - at least, those who were willing to let me hear about it. But I have don't have to worry about that anymore.
It's a reminder that every opportunity begins with a choice. Day one was hard, as were the first few years, but there's hope. If you're ready to make the change, trust in yourself and take the step. Be well!
