Scooter stolen, I suspect I just found it on Craigslist, what should I do?
Here's the story: last month I bought a used but excellent 125cc Genuine Buddy scooter. Seller has title, registration, all was legit. I got it insured, drove it home, had it 10 days and someone stole it from in front of my house.
I had insurance against theft, and my insurance company ended up paying me much more than I had paid myself, which is nice but whatever. I still don't have a replacement scooter.
And then today while browsing through Craigslist, I come across a scooter for sale... there is only a stock photo, is being sold as "for parts" but seller says nothing about why, is the ONLY Genuine Buddy for sale on Craigslist in my area, seller brags "low miles" (which would be correct) but doesn't mention year of manufacture (probably because he doesn't know and doesn't have the title or registration), accepts crypto currency as payment, and is asking too much for a "parts only" scooter of this caliber. I no longer have the key or title-- I surrendered these to my insurance company-- so technically this has nothing to do with me... Except justice.
I have notified my insurance company, not sure what they will do if anything. I'd love to catch this dude out somehow, but am afraid I will scare him off if I ask too many questions. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
