A stranbge (but hilarous) coincidence

I just realized the most hilarious thing about my Bohandi species.

The first work that was written from their point of view, Star home: Bohandi, told a story of a Bohandi fleet centered around a Heavy Cruiser that escaped from the nuking of Bohus by humans. The humans are hunting them now and they must escape. The premise, and it alone, was taken from Battlestar Galactica. It alone, since this was pretty much all I knew of this at the time.

The characters were supposed to be mostly original. Yes, two Bohandi were based

on Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren from Star Wars. I meant for them to be how their relationship should look (the series was written about the time Ahsoka Season 1 was airing). But other than that, nothing.

But, other than making them have a complicated relationship (they call themselves siblings but the male is clearly attracted to the woman and she really returns it), I also made both of them fighter pilots. Good fighter pilots. Not to mention the woman was (in a later work) adopted by an important pair in the fleet.

But the most hilarious part of it are their names. And it was completely unintentional! The female is named D’Ara. It is based on the word “dare”, but it is just one letter change (and removal of apostrophe) from “Kara”. What is even more hilarious is male’s name. He is named “F’Rak”. It was based on the word for “tuxedo” in my native language. I don’t need to tell how it sounds in 2003 Battlestar Galactica context.

And I just realized any of it today.

Of course, Bohandi are far more disciplined,. and F’Rak is not related to any high - ranking officer in the fleet. But other than that…
