ACW Ordnance Department Insignia

Hey y'all,

I'm working on an American Civil War-era U.S. Ordnance Department Officer impression right now, and I couldn't find any information as to what color the backing of the shoulder boards would have been. Would it have been red like thr artillery, or black like a staff officer? If you have any idea, please let me know.
