Indian passport holder permanently residing the UK - want to change legal name
I'm an Indian national permanently residing in the UK (home is in the UK) with Indefinite Leave to Remain. I want to legally change my name. I plan to apply for citizenship in November and surrender my current Indian passport (which has my current name) if I get British citizenship.
The thing is I've been advised that to get my name changed on immigration related documents such as my eVisa, I need to first get my name changed on my Indian passport - also I need this done so that I can become a British citizen in my new name, not old my one as my British passport will be issued with the name that's on my Indian passport at the time.
On the passport seva website (passportindia.gov.in), it says I need the following documents as part of the process for renewal of Indian passport under a new name:
- Clippings of two local news papers or the Gazette notification of the concerned State Government, as the case may be
- At least two public/school documents issued in the desired/ applied changed name to ascertain that the applicant has actually changed his/her name
I don't know how I would go about getting these, I'm 25, live in the UK permanently and have been here since 2007, I don't have 'school' or public' documents I could use. And how would I get a Gazette notification? In the UK, it's only possible to get with an enrolled deed poll which only British citizens can submit.
I don't how I would get my passport renewed in my circumstances.
