Nintendo Alarmo Initial Impressions

I picked some up for my kids and myself, and these are my thoughts.

TLDR:

The kids love them and I'm happy as well, though we have connectivity problems and a black screen while sleeping would be nice.

PROS:

  • The kids love them. They're up and they're playing with them. Sometimes it's hard to peel them away from the alarms. No more fights to wake up.
  • If they go back the bed the alarm is back on. It's nice knowing when I come to get them I wont have to wake them up.
  • It works well, it's interactive and the motion sensors are well done. Generally the alarm doesn't quiet down until you're up and walking away from it.
  • My one kid loves fighting bowser and the other loves the Stone Talus from BotW as well as guardian stalkers, so it's a great fit. they have a lot to pick from.

CONS:

  • I haven't been able to hook up to the internet. That happens with century link modems when you try need a 2.4 frequency router. I'm planning to take it to the library to update it on their internet at some point. It's been fun without the internet though.
  • The screen lights up a bit whenever you move and there's no way to stop this. I like black when I'm sleeping so I turn the alarm away which works fine but I'm really hoping they patch it for a "always black when sleeping" mode. It doesn't bother my kids and you can turn down the brightness, still wish it was different.

Overall the pros outweigh the cons, very much so for the kids, and still for me as well. It's been really nice not fighting them to wake up in the morning, and just fighting them to leave there alarm clock and come eat.

As to the price, that's a personal decision. For me my kids get enough out of it that it's worth it.
