Any tips about apps besides duolingo?

Hiii. So, I'm very new to learning a different language. French is the one I'm looking to learn most of. My friend swears by Duolingo, but I can not retain anything lmao. I'm struggling with the one word thing. I don't know if that makes sense? Like, no matter how many times I do it, I can't memorize anything they give me.

Any tips about this or other ways of learning? I know not everyone learns the same way. Maybe I'm just that haha. Thank you!
