Trazadone alternatives
Recently I started trazadone for sleep, 100 mg a night. I used to use melatonin and unisom or sominex, with occasional ambien, but that stopped working and the nightly OTC products were causing excessive sinus dryness. My DR had me try trazadone as a replacement.
I'm finding traz pretty iffy. I do fall asleep, but only for 2-3 hours, then it's worn off. I've been having to take .25 mg or .5 mg Clonazepam around 2am to get back to sleep for a few more hours.
This combo works but I'd rather not be taking two things like this.
I have amytripiline I could try instead, and am considering. It likely has more side effects. Traz only side effect is dry mouth at night, gone by morning.
I've read ramelteon may have the least side effects, but not sure how well it works. Quivic and dayvigo have no generic version so doubtful my insurance would cover.
Any suggestions on trazadone alternatives? Has amytripiline worked for anyone? ramelteon?
I've also read "set it and forget it" and am watching the YouTube vids by the author. I do think long term I can get past my sleep issues following his methods, but I still need sleep assistant for the time being, especially during these short winter days.
