Where to win a face off

Ok this is maybe the dumbest post you’ll read. I’ve been moved to center on my D league team and I’m not really sure where I should be trying to “win” the face off too. I’m having good luck getting my stick on the puck and being able to send it in a general direction. Should I just shovel it back toward my D men (risk just throwing it into the defensive zone if i’m off target) or try and throw it out to a winger (always feels like a 50/50 puck when I do that) or just jam it forward and try to get a stick on it and control it after the face off (feel like this works a higher percent of the time but is fairly sloppy). Yeah real dumb question sorry.
