squash vine borer

I found a strange bug on my pumpkin plant this morning which I later found out was a squash vine borer. This is my first time ever growing anything really and this pumpkin plant is my pride and joy at the moment.

I’m quite positive I caught it (very) early. I picked off all the tiny little eggs I could see and will continue to do so. I watched a few videos on youtube on dealing with them and plan to get BT to inject into the main stem but my question is, I doubt the BT will do anything to stop the bug from laying eggs/any eggs I missed from hatching. Since I caught it so early, is there anything else I can do to prevent the bug from laying eggs? I do plan to try to kill it if I see it again 🙃
