Have you ever felt so complete with your club, that you resigned?
Yesterday I did the Jürgen Klopp way and resigned with West Ham as a club icon. My savegame was a rollercoaster with my usual tactics didn't quite work, made me 8th, 4th and 13th in my first three years and left a lot of players with a rating of way below 7.00.
But for me West Ham was a peek in the past, as I had one of my all time favorite saves back in 2008 with the club, making Asamoah Gyan the all time leading top scorer (two years before he break through in South Africa - I love FM!), winning the Champions League but never ever the Premier League.
With Junior Kroupi I had the same feels as with Asamoah Gyan in 2008 - he almost played similarly with dribbling past the goalkeeper and finishing. But as I said, it never clicked for Junior in my system, so in my fourth year, creeping through the middle of the league table, I changed pretty much everything - system, tactical approach, most of my players, except for some including Junior - and gave the season away to improve this new tactic and learn, what kind of players I need for having a successful next season. I finished 10th, which was fine for the board, and they wouldn't regret it.
Then in the next season we had a really strong start and finish, just struggling in winter with injuries, but we finished on a strong 7th place, always with the feeling, that more is possible with a little more time.
And that was it: The next year we hit the ground running, cruising through the league, didn't lose against Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, the big three in the last years und finished as champion with 7 points difference, even with a sloppy finish of three defeats in the last three games.
Long story short, afterwards, after my first Premier League title with West Ham, after buying a West Ham jersey at Classic Football Shirts (2015 L/S, Kouyaté, old logo ❤️), after spending nights reading the whole club story again and again and most of all after having such an impact with a selfmade tactic I felt, what Jürgen Klopp felt and what Pep Guardiola hinted that he felt it in the offseason: complete. So I resigned as club icon and went to bed at 3am in peace.
As I said earlier: I love FM! What a game!
