I really don't get why Kanye's recent behaviour inspires discussion on how it will affect his legacy

I listened to the first 7 Kanye albums a LOT around the time they came out, and while it was more and more clear through the years that he was a douche, there really weren't any signs of him being a nazi in his music. Yes, in the latest albums it comes up, but in his classic era it's incredibly easy to "separate the art from the artist"... the nazi stuff is nowhere to be found.

Yes, he deserves to be cancelled now, but at the same time, he made some of the greatest albums of all time. I literally don't understand how him being messed up now has any effect on that, or why it makes people "question" his legacy. A person can be horrible in their morals but have great musical talent: these things have very little to do with each other.
