DD2: What parts of the game didn't you understand at first? Tips for others.

So I've noticed a lot of posts and for that matter myself, not understanding certain parts of the game until having played it for a very long time. Which makes me wonder if there's other things that I'm missing. So why don't we all help each other out and share what things you didn't notice until later? Or things you feel lots of people end up missing.

I'll start with a list myself.

  • Realizing that each step of the loathing makes monsters harder (and you can see the effects on the detail screen) ... I've been playing keeping myself right at 2 to 3 constantly assuming that was the efficient way to do stuff and wondering why everything was getting harder and harder.
  • Understanding how powerful ordained mobs are, and that you can view them to see exactly all the benefits they've been given
    • For that matter, realizing that you can view the enemies in the detail screen to understand what most of their moves do and their resistances
  • In the beginning, realizing that you're supposed to run over the road hazards instead of avoiding them
  • Learning how to hire the Bounty Hunter
  • Realizing how you should moderate your candle spending (in particular it somehow never clicked that I was getting samples of the items I was unlocking. And one time spent like 80 candles, unlocking a ton of trinkets and stagecoach items that I then had to discard almost instantly upon starting the game. oooops)

And here's a I don't even understand one: why are some ordained enemies names in bright, red and glowing? I've still never figured that out versus the blue ones.
