Where do people actually eat bugs?

So I don't share the belief many of you guys do which is that the government is gonna force us to eat bugs or anything like that. But objectively many organisations like the WEF promoted it. One of the main things they say is that it's commonly eaten by billions around the world!

But is this like, actually true? The only dish I know with bugs is escargot (snails) in France and that's a European country and most people still consider it gross. In all places bugs hang out around dirt and waste, and are often poisonous and have diseases. More importantly many of them have an exoskeleton so they don't seem very edible. I'm sure many cultures have needed to eat them over time, but like rats, it was probably just famine food.

What really made me think that very few people and cultures actually eat bugs is that recently I read "Born a Crime" the autobiography of Trevor Noah, the comedian. Basically he is from South Africa and grew up during apartheid, so his family was relatively poor. He grew up in a poor country, in a poor family and legally had less rights. There was a section in the book when his family became poorer than usual, and he had to eat this African bug called mopane worms. He literally said in the book, that despite being poor he never had to eat them before, it was poverty food basically.

And when talking to people from different countries and when they talk about food, even from Asian countries they claim eat bugs none of them said they are anything with bugs in their country.

My theory is that some places eat them but only during famine/extreme poverty
