Non-Steam achievements? ...and one other question

I notice achievements popping up even though I'm not playing on Steam. I bought it on GoG. Out of curiosity, is there a way to see all the completed achievements somewhere in this case, or is this merely a Steam thing that has no meaning outside of Steam?

Also - extra question thrown in: I can't tell if the save button isn't working (for saving a log of your game after you've died). I'm on mac. There is no indication that anything happened when I press s. I noticed that some keys don't work in the game — the d key is another. I'm wondering where (on mac) the morgue files should be located.
