How often do you think mothers stop nursing because they think they have low supply but it’s really just their milk regulating?

I hope I’ve explained that well enough in the title, but I’m now breastfeeding my second baby and at this point I’ve talked to so many mothers who’ve said they stopped breastfeeding around 2-3months because their milk supply dried up. And at the risk of sounding ignorant, I’ve just always wondered if that really was the case, or if they mistook their milk regulated as low supply and stopped nursing? Because when your supply regulates, your breast are softer and more comfortable rather than all hard and constantly full like in the beginning weeks.

I just find it crazy the amount of mothers who have said this at this point always around the 2-3month mark because it pains my heart (and of course the mothers!) to hear moms talk about how much they wanted to breastfeed but their milk just “disappeared”. I just ask the question because I hate how little preparation women are sometimes given towards nursing. A lot of the time moms are just thrown in the deep end and it’s up to us to actively seek out information. I’m thankful for the internet that helped me gather the information I needed towards breastfeeding to have a successful journey the first time around when things got tough and I’m hoping for another good journey again this time. But a lot of women in my mothers generation kinda just had to figure it out on their own if other doctors and resources failed them, and that’s the generation I hear talking about quitting breastfeeding the most.

Anyway, just some thoughts I’ve been hatching and I’m curious to hear other one’s opinions!
