Rising up awareness about 4090 Scams!

With the recent flood of stripped 4090s (missing memory and core) available everywhere online, it’s very easy for scammers to sell "brand-new" looking cards that they could have bought for $200-$300 on eBay.

In my case the scammer provided a forged receipt from a local Richmond, BC Canada Computers store. It looked legit printed on the right paper, with matching S/Ns on the box and card. All warranty stickers were intact, including the tamper-proof one you must punch through to open the card. The PCB and exterior were pristine, and even some protective film was still in place. He also came and did the deal at RBC bank location with all the CCTV cameras and everything. It looks like they have absolutely no fear in terms of getting caught or police doing anything about it. Seems like such a big risk for not an extremely huge reward.

Despite having sold 4090 myself recently without the buyer testing it on the spot, I strongly advise against that approach now. Do not buy a 4090 without testing it first, no matter the seller or price. I expect it can happen at any price point. Please be aware. Sometimes we just do a bit of wishful thinking that gets us.

Although I do have a picture of the guy, I don’t think it would help posting it here and I am not sure if right under privacy laws. Just again please be super aware. There is a chance after his success that he would try to do it again. The list was on Facebook Marketplace and concern Vancouver area.
