2001 washer repair or replace?

I have a whirlpool LSQ8000JQ1 that was made in November of 2001. It's a great machine and runs solid but the timer is not functioning properly. A new timer is just shy of $300 so I'm not sure if it's worth it to replace, this machine has done a LOT of laundry.

I need a little advice. I know new machines are not as reliable as the older ones, should I repair this or buy a new washer? If I should buy a new washer what should I get?
