Processing/ Preparing for delivery

Good evening, I was hoping someone could shed some light on what is going on with my package. For 3 days now, my package has been stuck on processing at facility/ preparing for delivery. Initially it was scheduled for delivery on 11/17, but kept getting pushed back until finally it says ‘The delivery date will be provided as soon as possible.’ I’ve chatted with both UPS and the company I purchased from and both keep telling me to contact each other. I understand that it’s a busy time right now. Just curious as to why or if this happens frequently? Kind of worried that this package will turn up lost.
