Jean-Paul Belmondo

In case you guys missed it, Belmondo passed away today at the age of 88. I realize that /r/TrueFilm tends to discuss directors more than actors, but I thought it might be interesting to change the focus for once.

Although he's had roles in pretty dippy films (for all of the quality of its cinematographic culture, I feel as though France just cannot seem to generate good action films), he is also inextricably linked to the French New Wave by dint of having starred in Breathless (and, to a lesser extent I think, Pierrot le fou).

Given his extensive filmography (and his pretty wide range, come to think of it), what are your favorite films starring Belmondo, and why?

For my tastes (and given my limited knowledge of his filmography), I'd have to say Pierrot le fou simply on the basis of how much his entire demeanor in it is probably the ne plus ultra of not caring about anything. (I remember someone telling me he thought Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski was the ultimate example of someone who doesn't give a rat's ass, but I think Belmondo in Pierrot le fou does it better.)
