Teaching reading, need some help
Hi! I am new ro teaching English and culture. I have five students in my youngest group (Year 1 and 2). They can recognize the letter sounds but have issues with blending. I had them read passages from "The Cat in the Hat" and, though they got through it okay, I am not sure where to go next. Their previous teachers material seemed a bit hard and I noticed that they barely wrote in it at all. According to them, they just played games
I was thinking of buying the Jolly Grammar set but there are sooo many phonics options/reading/grammar books etc. Can you recommend something, preferably a systematic option that shows progression (though I can get the Jolly Grammar books in print ). I noticed that there was a free system through the Florida Education system but I don't know how good that one is. I just want them to enjoy reading, not think of it as a chore.
Thank you in advance!
