Regarding AI art and this sub
Okay so I've been mulling over this for long enough now. Long story short, I don't want to ban AI here. Now before you scream at me, let me at least explain why and try to at least understand where I'm coming from even if you disagree.
First of all, I'm old... probably older than most people on this subreddit but I've seen the progress of the internet and various technologies over the years. I was on a 14k dial up back in the 90s when downloading a 7MB Real Player file took hours and looked like shit, but my god, back then, it was amazing. I was there when there was backlash against people making digital art. It was "soulless" and "real artists use pencil and paper." Mind you, the internet was much smaller back then so it was nothing like the backlash we see today, but I remember it. Hell there are still people who take this stance to this day:
and so on. (please don't brigade btw, I'm just making a point)
I also remember when Photoshop became popular. Then the issue was "Real artists don't use soulless tech." "You're just applying a filter, that's not art!" and so on. I remember a friend I had at the time who was upset with me for using it because I just didn't understand how this was going to take jobs away from artists and she felt like all her years of drawing was for nothing. People would outright get banned from places for using Photoshop and they wanted any use of Photoshop to be banned on their forums and what not.
Here's another article on the matter:

To this day some don't think photography is art because you're just "pressing a button." The camera is doing the work!
Do you see where I'm going with this?
And I know a lot of you right now are typing out, "But this is different!" in response, but the thing is... so was digital art. So was photoshop. It's always "this is different!" but at the end of whatever era it is, the "soulless" tech survived and never went away. AI isn't going away either. If anything, it's only going to get bigger and I just don't see the point in banning it because a few people hate it so much.
Also to counter this, we had someone posting traditional art recently, and the reaction of most people was to mock them and tell them to stop because the art wasn't up to their standards. One of the things I hear ai AI people say a lot is "Pick up a pencil and learn to draw"... well you can't tell someone to "pick up a pencil" and when they do, insult them because according to you, it isn't good enough.
You can't have it both ways. I'm not going to just say "Okay no AI art and your artwork has to be really good in order to post it!" and then have to keep updating the rule because next someone doesn't think some other form of art isn't good enough. I'm sorry but I'm tired of the gate keeping.
-----------------
Having said all of THAT... I will ask that if your post doesn't NEED AI art, then it's probably best that you make your post without it just to keep the peace around here. And if someone DOES post AI art, don't respond with just "ew AI" or "AI SLOP" type comments. Those don't do anything to help and isn't going to make someone who likes AI art think, "Oh wow I shouldn't like this." At least give constructive criticism.
That being said, if I deleted your post in the previous topic which used AI art, I apologize for that. I shouldn't have done that. I approved your posts so they should be back again. You're allowed to share your opinions I just ask that you do so civilly.
Now I know this post is going to get downvoted so I'm going to pin this. I'm willing to hear anyone out, but not if everyone is just going to post with "ew AI" type comments.
Hopefully I don't piss off anyone too bad with this, hopefully you can at least see where I'm coming from even if you don't agree.
