Some theories forget that Severance is a satire of big corporations

First of all, I support every kind of deep theorizing (that’s what I’m here for). But I also believe that some theories here dive too deep and forget to consider that Severance is a satire of corporate environments.

A feeling that I have since the beginning of the show is that this critique of corporations hypocrisy is more “important” to the writers than the mysteries of the show. I say this because I work in the corporate of a big company, which make so many scenes so relatable to me. But then I get here and people are discussing this same scenes wondering “why did this happened?”.

This happens a lot when Lumon (or Cobel and Milchick) do something stupid and people start theorizing “well there must be something behind this because there’s no way that this big important corporation would fuck up like this”. For instance, I saw some people theorizing on why would Lumon pay the MDR team so badly to the point of Dylan’s wife having to work too, or why would they fire them so easily on the start of S2. But for me, the fact that they’re underpaid and so easily replaceable just makes the satire hits closer to home!

I understand that Lumon is not supposed to be the average company, but I think it’s so important that they keep the absurd dumb decisions that you usually see in real companies. Also, I think people would be surprised on how dumb some people that run some of the biggest companies can be.

Anyway, I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I’m not criticizing any particular theory, just giving my point of view.
