The great allicin/allimed/allimax conspiracy??
So, I've now got in touch with 2 leading "allicin" supplement manufacturers here in the UK.
Allimed, who were very sketchy giving me information, contains "around" 2% allicin. 50% is maltodextrin and 48% is acacia gum and 2% allicin in a 450mg pill.
Voldox contains only garlic powder and 1% allicin per 450mg pill.
The idea that you can take 2700mg a day of allicin must be a myth. There are no supplement manufacturers out there able to stabilise and supply that level of allicin. So does this mean that you only need a tiny amount of allicin to have effect against methane IMO/SIBO? Or do these supplements not do anything at all and perhaps even make some things worse. Do the studies stating 2700mg allicin in fact mean these pills containing a tiny fraction of that amount?
Thoughts???
EDIT: I'm also starting to wonder if it's actually the acacia gum doing the work in the Allimed pills. Acacia gum is a prebiotic that increases bifidobacterium which could crowd out methanogens.
