Announcement: /r/RSBookClub will go private

Before getting to business, I want to remind everyone that this subreddit is exclusively for readers. If your only post here is jumping into a culture war debate with no history of talking about books, we will ban you.

We are going private in a few days. If you've received an "approved user" message, you'll be able to see and use the sub when it goes private. If you haven't received an "approved user" message, please leave a comment on the sub so we can add you to the approved users list. You can reply here if you want with a '.' or the book you're currently reading or your thoughts. Please restrict discussion of going private to this thread.

When private, only approved users will be able to see the sub. If you haven't been approved when we're private, you can still request to join, but it might take a while if we have a backlog of requests.

Q. Why? A. We've asked many long-time members of the sub and the response has been near-unanimous.

Q. Is this permanent? A. Probably.

Q. Is this a 20k subscribers prank? A. No.

Q. How does going private work? A. We've automated adding as many commenters as we can to the approved users list. But reddit doesn't offer access to the list of subscribers, so we can only add people who comment. If you haven't been approved and want to see the sub in the future, please leave a comment on /r/rsbc.
