Why do American movies/shows depict the young daughter wanting to marry the dad?

You know in some Hollywood movies and shows, when there’s a father and daughter depicted, they make a comment about the daughter pretending to marry or wanting to marry her dad when she’s a kid? Like super young, I think max age 6. What is that about? Is this an American thing or a western thing or what? Why does that movie/tv trope exist? I feel like I’ve only seen it in American media but I might be wrong
