Trading Ships?

From what I've seen when looking out up how to give away ships, it looks like I have to sell my ship to an NPC and then the person I'm playing with buys it from the NPC (or vice versa). Has an easier/faster way to trade ships been added? Everything I can find on the topic is from 2021 or earlier.
