Planning around no paid maternity leave
Hello all!
My wife and I are starting to make plans to start a family. Fortunately, my job provides paid parental leave for 10 weeks. Unfortunately, my wife’s job does not provide the same benefit and we do not live in a state with parental leave benefits. We’re also not close with our families and live pretty far away.
To me it would be completely unfair if she didn’t get time off beyond sick leave provided by her job. She’s the one giving birth, not me, so why should I be the only one to reap parental leave benefits?
I was curious about how other new parents handled lack of parental leave outside of FMLA. Something I was considering was creating a separate savings account to help cover expenses while she gets a good three months or so off.
Thank you for the experiences, advice, opinions, etc!
