GLP1s and Hypermobility

Hi all,

I just wanted to say first that this sub is awesome, and has helped me so much.

Recently, I’ve been considering starting a GLP1. However, I am not sure if it’s okay for hypermobile joints. On paper, one is a collagen deficiency, the other is a hormone. But i know hypermobility is complicated and can affect other systems. I don’t think I would pop a rib vomiting, but bone density loss or muscle loss seems like it could really screw up our kind. Then again, extra weight is rough on joints too!

I’d love to know if anyone has any insights or experience! Obviously, the clear answer is answer is “talk to a doctor,” but my GP doesn’t seem to know much about hypermobility.

TRIGGER WARNING: DIETING Background: I gained a ton of weight in pregnancy, then lost bit, but gained it all back and a couple more during breastfeeding and a really stressful couple of years. I’m currently weaning my daughter (it is taking forever, shoot me). I believe a lot of why the weight is sticking is my hormones while nursing, as my mom said it was like this for her and I’ve met other women who had this same experience. I wouldn’t start a GLP1 until after my kid is completely weaned. I hope everything gets a bit more normal after weaning, but I honestly would like to lose the weight faster/more easily. I’ve had to lose weight other times in my life, and even with literally measuring my food, calories/macros, and consistent workouts, I lose weight very slowly. It’s hard for me to put muscle on. I’m eager to feel lighter on my feet, and I am thinking about having a second child, would rather not be carrying excess weight before I even get pregnant.
