This show is a demonstration of why Toriyama is the kind of author who needs editors and people to question him

Nothing but respect for Toriyama - the guy basically created the mold for Shonen that is followed to this day and drew some of the most dynamic fight scenes in any comic - but Daima is the prime example of what happens when an author has too much control over their baby. This show really needed some redrafting to cut out a bunch of the redundant fluff; so many episodes could either be combined (while still retaining the adventure feel that it's going for) or just removed entirely (stupid giant hamster episode) and it would do wonders.

The Cell Saga is many people's favorite in Dragon Ball (both original and Z), and that arc came about almost entirely because of one of his editors telling him that his original idea wasn't working. Granted, it resulted in some plot holes and inconsistencies, but I would say the narrative overall was made a lot better because of it. Daima is sorely missing that, which is why we have the same joke of pregnant Goku and the ship malfunctioning as a plot device, and entire episodes that just distract from the plot. OG Dragon Ball certainly had chapters/episodes like this, but even they tied into the larger story more than this show did (Yamcha joining, meeting Master Roshi, meeting Chi-Chi). The only chapter from the original saga I can think of that felt as standalone as this was Monster Carrot, and even that had Yamcha helping Goku.

Bottom line, Toriyama was a very talented author that the world will never be the same without, but it's becoming clear he's one of those authors that needed a team to help reign him in at times.
