One for the lawyers…

Fellow redditors, cough lawyers, you may or may not have seen a few months ago a couple posts about a cyclist who was hit head-on by someone on a scooter at a blind corner. That cyclist is my friend, and thankfully doing a LOT better, but still dealing with a broken right hand, nasty scarring on his head from 3 separate gashes, and a hefty medical bill after insurance. Thanks to some truly amazing folks on here, we were able to get in contact with the main eye-witness from this incident, and after additional sleuthing, finally subpoenaed Uber/Lime for the scooter riders info. Now for the reason I’m posting- the rider has no insurance, no money, and no assets. What are my friend’s options in a situation like this - it’s crazy to think that after all this hard work and for an incident that he didn’t cause, that he is stuck paying this bill. Any advice is verrrrrry much appreciated!
