Leaving the Industry for Tech?
It's often brought up on here that one way to branch out of the industry, especially as a GC, is to go work for a construction tech company as a industry consultant or product expert. Well after a lot of interviewing, I've finally received an offer from one of these tech companies. It's a smaller company (not Autodesk or Procore), so I'm slightly hesitant to completely change industries. I don't think it'll be tough to get back into construction if things didn't work out, but obviously this would throw off a lot of forward momentum I've generated in my career.
I'm curious if anyone else has made a similar transition and whether they've enjoyed it or had any regrets leaving the industry?
I love construction, but it certainly has its challenges. I'm a young superintendent so the stress is real, the hours are long, and so much of my job revolves around me physically being on site. The idea of doing this another 30 years is daunting and moving into a role with a different skill set and fully remote is certainly appealing, but don't want to fall into a "grass is greener" scenario...
