Is my husband’s salary low?
Glassdoor and salary sites are only so helpful!
My husband is from another country. Been in the US since 2022. Bachelor’s Engineering (internationally accredited) and 5 years work experience as a PE/PM in the government in his home country.
Faced some discrimination when first in the US - ended up finding a PC job at a small GC in Wisconsin. Was willing to take the step down to gain US experience. Quick promotion to PE (three months in). $65k, mediocre benefits.
Moved after a year to a bigger but still small, family owned GC as a PE. $77K, expensive (bad) health options, 3% 401k match, $2.5K end of year bonus. No other perks, but they LOVE him and they keep saying they want to get him making more money this year.
So now, 7.5 years of experience, but only 2.5 of that in the US. I’m still worried he’s being stiffed on salary because of his non-US experience. Glassdoor says he’s mid-low, but this sub makes me think he’s REALLY low, even for Wisconsin. Especially because the GC is doing really well.
Any insight? And - how bad would it be to apply at another GC after just a year and a half at the new company? Is job hopping normal in this field?
