Whats the deal with tournaments?

So, basically you get 20minutes to do as much damage as you can, so you pick an all meta team, place top 3, get an op unit, use that op unit to win every other tournament, so other players never get that unit... kinda bs. I just hate the idea of a mode, where only the top 3 get something op, and it's unobtainable for anyone else. What do yall think about tournaments?
