Someone in my building stole my family’s chinese food

While bringing in our groceries, we accidentally left our takeout by the elevator. Realizing this as soon as we entered our apartment, we quickly returned downstairs only to find it gone. We contacted the building superintendent to review the security footage. The video showed a man, who initially ignored the food while on his phone, later picking it up when the elevator arrived approximately five minutes after we had gone upstairs. The elevator camera captured his face, and he appeared to be smiling. Although we're uncertain which floor he exited on, we suspect it was one of the middle floors. Instead of involving the police due to the uncertainty of his location, we opted to post his photos and a note in the elevator and on the doors, hoping he pay for the food. I’m just looking for advice from someone who’s been through this exact situation or similar, what’s the best way to proceed?
