Bringing Car to Mexico?

My wife, cats, and I are planning to move to Mexico sometime in the next year, where we'll work the same WFH jobs we've been working. We haven't yet decided on where to go, but due to a disability I would feel significantly more secure knowing I had my own means of transportation—even in a city with public transportation as robust as CDMX's.

Has anyone here taken their car with them to Mexico? Did you drive it there or have it shipped? Was there anything you wish you had known prior to taking it with you? Right now, we're really hoping to travel by car the entire way, but aren't sure how wise that would be.
